1 Dead in Hit-and-Run Crash Near Milepost 71 [Wapato, WA]

Wapato, WA (October 17, 2025) – A person was killed in a hit-and-run crash near Milepost 71 early Wednesday morning.

WSP officers responded to a report of a dead person at SR 97 on October 12. The authorities determined that the victim was fatally hit by a vehicle.

According to the authorities, the fatal crash unfolded between 2 a.m. and 4 a.m. on Sunday, October 11. 

Police said parts from the suspect vehicle were found at the crash scene. Police also said that  the vehicle may have damage to the headlight, turn signal, and front end.

Moreover, officers are asking anyone who might have seen a vehicle stopped along the freeway in the early morning of October 11.
