ALBUQUERQUE, NM (February 25, 2026) – Tuesday morning, Sergeant Michael Schlattman died in a tragic rear-end crash on Interstate 40 near Carnuel.

The incident happened at around 12:30 a.m. on Interstate 40 near Carnuel.

According to reports, a semi-truck rear-ended a Bernalillo County Sheriff’s Office patrol vehicle and an officer standing outside the vehicle. Also, authorities said that the officer was pinned underneath the patrol vehicle.

Moreover, authorities confirmed that the officer, identified as Sergeant Michael Schlattman, died in the line of duty.
