1 Dead in Vehicle Crash on Baker Street [Bakersfield, CA]

Bakersfield, CA (June 23, 2025) –  A driver was killed and a pedestrian was injured in a vehicle crash on Baker Street Saturday evening.

The authorities responded around 6:02 p.m. to a hit-and-run crash at the intersection with Sumner Street.

While troopers were on the way, they received reports of another collision at Baker Street and Niles Street.

When the authorities arrived at Sumner Street, they located a man down in the roadway. The victim was rushed to an area hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Moreover, when police arrived at Niles Street, the located two heavily damaged vehicles, fully engulfed in flames.

One of the drivers, a man, sustained major injuries and was declared deceased at the scene.

The other driver, also a man, suffered minor injuries and was transported to an area hospital.

Investigators said the surviving driver was northbound on Baker Street when he struck the pedestrian at Sumner Street. 

The driver then sped north but failed to stop for a red light at the intersection of Niles Street. 

As a result, the driver crashed into a westbound vehicle.

Toxicology results are pending to determine if drugs or alcohol were factors in the collision.
