1 Person Hurt in Startling 2-Vehicle Crash on Highway 101

Traffic Slowed after Eureka Auto Accident on Highway 101 near Bayside Cutoff

EUREKA, CA (March 11, 2026) – Tuesday morning, a person was hurt in a startling 2-vehicle crash on Highway 101 near Bayside Cutoff.

The incident involving two vehicles happened at around 6:32 a.m. on northbound Highway 101 near the Bayside Cutoff.

“A car was off in the ditch and one on its side on 101,” one passerby revealed. “The police were there and looked like someone was still inside of the vehicle that was on its side.”

Reports on the California Highway Patrol Traffic Incident Information Page indicated a crash involving a red sedan and a gray sedan in the No. 1 lane. Early callers said one vehicle went off the roadway and into a ditch.

Shortly after the initial report, responders said one person was having trouble breathing and requested medical assistance. Cal Fire was notified and responded.

Officers closed the No. 1 northbound lane while crews worked at the scene and initiated a traffic break near Harper’s Motors to slow approaching vehicles.

CHP logs later showed the vehicles involved were a Toyota Tacoma and a white Nissan Altima. Tow trucks were called to remove the damaged vehicles.

Authorities reported the No. 1 lane reopened around 7:28 a.m., and traffic was allowed to access the Bayside Cutoff again by about 7:32 a.m.

An ambulance was requested, though the extent of injuries was initially unclear. A later update at 8:29 a.m. indicated the injuries were minor.
