1 Person Hospitalized After Crash on 5 Freeway Involving Sedan and Caltrans in Pacoima

PACOIMA, CA (June 25, 2026)— One person suffered injuries in a crash on 5 Freeway on Thursday morning after a sedan slammed into a Caltrans vehicle on the Golden State 5 Freeway in Pacoima.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened at about 10:45 a.m. on the northbound side of the freeway, north of the Ronald Reagan 118 Freeway.

Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics transported the injured person to a hospital, a department spokesperson said.

Authorities did not immediately release the patient’s age, gender, or condition.

The collision prompted officials to close three northbound lanes, causing traffic to back up to Terra Bella Street. CHP later reported that crews reopened an additional lane shortly before noon.

Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the crash.

Legal Support After Freeway Crashes Involving Roadside or Caltrans Vehicles

A freeway crash can happen in seconds, but the consequences can last much longer.

When a vehicle collides with a Caltrans vehicle or another roadside work vehicle, the situation can become especially dangerous because of traffic speed, lane closures, work-zone activity, and limited room for drivers to react.

Sweet Lawyers sends sincere support to the person injured in this Pacoima crash and hopes for a full recovery.

Collisions on major freeways like the Golden State 5 Freeway often require careful investigation.

Important questions may include whether traffic was slowing, whether warning signs or cones were present, whether the Caltrans vehicle was stopped or moving, whether the sedan’s driver was distracted, and whether road conditions or visibility played a role. These details can be critical when determining responsibility and protecting the rights of injured victims.

Even when initial reports do not describe the full extent of injuries, anyone transported to a hospital after a crash should take the situation seriously.

Freeway collisions can cause neck and back injuries, head trauma, internal injuries, soft tissue damage, emotional distress, and complications that may not appear immediately.

Medical records, photos, witness statements, traffic camera footage, CHP reports, and vehicle damage documentation may all help establish what happened and how the crash affected the injured person.

Insurance companies may move quickly after a collision, but injured victims should avoid accepting early offers before understanding the full scope of their medical needs, lost income, and long-term recovery.

A rushed settlement may not account for future treatment, therapy, pain, or complications.
