Kirksville Man Sustained Injuries in Highway 61 Big Rig Collision [Lincoln County, MO]

SUV Driver Hospitalized in Lincoln County Vehicle Crash

Lincoln County, MO (July 18, 2026) – A 41-year-old Kirksville man was injured following a Highway 61 big rig collision Thursday afternoon.

It was past 4 p.m. when the two-vehicle crash happened at Creech Lane, north of Troy.

Police said a tractor-trailer driven by a 46-year-old Troy man was westbound on Creech Lane when it failed to yield to oncoming traffic.

As the big rig drove through the intersection, an SUV driven by a Kirksville man was traveling south.

The big rig and the SUV collided broadside.

Immediately, the medical team rushed the Kirksville man to SSM Health St. Joseph Hospital with moderate injuries.

The big rig driver, on the other hand, was not injured in the crash.

Police said both drivers were wearing their seat belts during the accident.

Statistics show that a significant number of traffic accidents are caused by faulty lights. In fact, according to a recent study, approximately 20% of accidents at night can be attributed to non-functioning or dim headlights. Therefore, regularly inspecting and maintaining your vehicle’s headlights and turn signals is crucial for accident prevention.

You should always stay focused while on the road. Remove all distractions that could cause accidents, such as mobile phone use and unrestrained toddlers.

Other strategies for staying focused while driving include avoiding multitasking, such as eating or applying makeup, and keeping a safe following distance from the vehicle in front of you. It’s also important to stay alert and well-rested, as fatigue can impair your ability to concentrate on the road.
