CHP Investigates Multi-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 10 in Palm Desert

Palm Desert, CA (April 22, 2025) – A Border Patrol pursuit ended in a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 10 in Palm Desert on Friday afternoon.

Authorities reported the collision around 1:55 p.m. on the westbound lanes of I-10 near Washington Street.

According to the California Highway Patrol (CHP), Border Patrol had been pursuing a vehicle, but the chase appeared to have ended shortly before the crash occurred. 

CHP Officer David Torres stated that the driver of a Mitsubishi sideswiped a red Toyota Prius east of Washington Street, then continued heading westbound.

Moments later, the Mitsubishi rear-ended an SUV, causing minor injuries to the SUV’s driver. 

Emergency responders treated the injured driver at the scene.

CHP confirmed they are investigating the crash itself, while Border Patrol remains responsible for reviewing the circumstances surrounding the pursuit. 

At this time, officials have not released information about what triggered the pursuit or details about the suspect involved.

The crash caused significant traffic delays along I-10 westbound for nearly an hour. 

Authorities continue to gather more information regarding the incident.
