CHP Investigates Fatal Crash on Highway 4 in Discovery Bay

Discovery Bay, CA (August 15, 2025) – One person died and one other sustained injuries in a head-on crash on Highway 4.

A deadly stretch on East Bay highways continued Thursday when a head-on collision killed one driver and left another with major injuries.

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) reported that the crash occurred around 10:20 a.m. on westbound Highway 4, just east of Discovery Bay Boulevard

Investigators said the driver of a Toyota Camry crossed the double-yellow divider lines and slammed head-on into a GMC Sierra.

The Camry driver died at the scene, while emergency crews airlifted the Sierra driver to a hospital with major injuries.

Authorities have not yet released the victim’s name, pending notification of family.

CHP confirmed that drugs and alcohol did not play a role in the crash.

Thursday’s wreck marked the fifth fatal crash on Highway 4 this year, raising the death toll to six.

It also became the third deadly collision on an East Bay freeway or highway since Monday. Earlier in the week, a 29-year-old Petaluma man died in a fiery wrong-way crash on Interstate 580 near the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge.

Roughly seven hours later, a 20-year-old Concord man was killed in a solo crash at the Monument Boulevard exit on northbound Interstate 680 in Pleasant Hill.

The deadly week continued Friday when another person died in a collision on Highway 242 in Concord

Authorities have not released that victim’s identity.

All of these tragedies followed a weekend head-on crash on Ygnacio Valley Road in Walnut Creek that claimed the life of a 16-year-old Mount Diablo High School student.

CHP continues to investigate the Highway 4 crash while urging drivers to remain cautious on East Bay roadways.

Sweet Lawyers extend our heartfelt condolences to the loved ones of the deceased. May the bereaved find solace and strength in this extremely trying time.
