1 Dead in Phoenix Auto Accident near 12th Street and Bell Road

PHOENIX, AZ (May 19, 2026) – Sunday morning, a person died in a brutal 2-vehicle crash near 12th Street and Bell Road.

The incident involving two vehicles happened at about 1:22 a.m. near 12th Street and Bell Road.

Emergency crews arrived to find an SUV and a sedan with major damage following the crash. Authorities said the 18-year-old driver of the SUV suffered non-life-threatening injuries, while Phoenix Fire Department transported the 22-year-old driver of the sedan to a hospital, where he later died.

Police said the SUV was traveling westbound on Bell Road at a high rate of speed when it struck the sedan traveling southbound on 12th Street.

Investigators believe speed and impairment were contributing factors in the crash. Authorities said impairment is associated with the 18-year-old SUV driver, who remains hospitalized.

Officials said possible charges will be determined after the investigation is completed.
