1 Dead in Bakersfield Auto Accident on Highway 65 and Minneola Avenue

BAKERSFIELD, CA (July 8, 2025) – Sunday night, a person died in a devastating 2-vehicle crash on Highway 65 and Minneola Avenue.

The incident happened at about 7:23 p.m. on Highway 65, north of Minneola Avenue.

A 55-year-old man driving a 2013 Toyota Sienna southbound on Highway 65, north of Minneola Avenue, attempted to overtake a 2005 Ford F-350 pulling a two-axle trailer, according to a preliminary investigation by the California Highway Patrol. Both vehicles were traveling southbound at undetermined speeds.

CHP said the Toyota moved into the northbound lane to pass the Ford but veered back into the southbound lane after the driver saw oncoming traffic. The Toyota then collided with the left front end of the Ford, causing the driver of the Toyota to lose control. The vehicle overturned, and one passenger was ejected from the Toyota and died at the scene.

The driver of the Toyota and two other passengers were transported to Kern Medical Center with moderate to major injuries. The driver and passengers of the Ford were not injured.

Both directions of Highway 65 north of Minneola Avenue were closed for about four hours during the investigation. CHP said alcohol or drugs do not appear to be factors in the crash.
