1 Dead in Laclede County Auto Accident on Highway 5 and Greenfield Road

LACLEDE COUNTY, MO (September 22, 2026) – Wednesday night, a person died in a horrific 2-vehicle crash on Highway 5 and Greenfield Road.

The incident happened just before 8:00 p.m. when a 2021 Kia Sorento traveled south on Highway 5, just north of Greenfield Road.

A 49-year-old Springfield man was killed after his Kia crossed the center of the roadway and collided head-on with a semi-truck, according to the Missouri State Highway Patrol.

The man was ejected from the Kia and suffered critical injuries. He was taken to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 8:44 p.m.

The 58-year-old semi-truck driver from Pine Bluff, Arkansas, was also injured and was treated at Mercy Hospital in Lebanon.

MSHP said the Kia driver was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash.
