1 Person Killed in Brutal Head-On Crash on Interstate 15

1 Dead in San Diego Auto Accident on Interstate 15 near Fallbrook

SAN DIEGO, CA (August 12, 2026) – Tuesday morning, a person died in a brutal head-on crash on Interstate 15 near Fallbrook.

The collision happened around 12:23 a.m. when a Ford Escape was traveling northbound in the southbound lanes of I-15. About a minute later, the SUV collided head-on with a Honda, CHP said.

The Honda driver, a 38-year-old man, died at the scene. The 32-year-old Ford driver was taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries. CHP Oceanside officers said the Ford driver appeared to be under the influence of alcohol during their initial investigation.

Debris from the crash led to additional collisions and a multi-vehicle pileup. A witness told authorities he saw the Ford move from the middle lane before striking another vehicle.

The identity of the deceased driver will be withheld until his family has been notified. The other driver’s identity has also not been released.
