1 Dead in Carter County Pedestrian Accident on US 60 near Van Buren

CARTER COUNTY, MO (March 4, 2026) – Early Monday morning, a 67-year-old male pedestrian died in a brutal hit-and-run crash on US 60 near Van Buren.

The incident happened at about 1:50 p.m. on eastbound US 60, around 9 miles west of Van Buren.

Authorities said a 67-year-old man from Oklahoma was struck and killed, and the driver left the scene.

The Carter County Sheriff’s Office said the man had been outside a white Ford that was pulling a camper and stopped in the right turn lane to Route J.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the Missouri State Highway Patrol or the Carter County Sheriff’s Office.
