Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Old Highway 99 in Red Bluff
RED BLUFF, CA (June 4, 2026)— One person died Thursday evening after a crash on Old Highway 99 involving a Walmart semi-truck and a small SUV.
According to California Highway Patrol traffic logs, the collision was reported around 5:45 p.m. near St. Elizabeth Community Hospital.
CHP Officer J. Hunt said the semi-truck was traveling northbound, while the small SUV was traveling southbound when the crash occurred.
Emergency crews responded to the scene after the collision. Firefighters were also called when one of the vehicles began to catch fire. Cal Fire extinguished the flames.
CHP confirmed that the crash resulted in one fatality. No other injuries were reported.
Authorities closed both directions of Old Highway 99 after the crash. The northbound lanes at Riverside Avenue and the southbound lanes near St. Elizabeth Community Hospital were shut down while crews responded and investigators worked at the scene.
Officials reopened both directions of Old Highway 99 around 9:16 p.m.
CHP said drugs and alcohol are not suspected factors in the crash.
The cause of the fatal collision remains under investigation.
