1 Dead in Galt Auto Accident on Highway 99 near Mingo Road

GALT, CA (March 3, 2026) – Early Monday morning, a person died in a horrific traffic crash on Highway 99 near Mingo Road.

The incident happened at about 3:59 a.m. on Highway 99 near the Mingo Road off-ramp.

The CHP said a red Hyundai Santa Fe left the northbound lanes, crossed the dirt and grass median, went over the Mingo Road on-ramp, and struck a tree.

Emergency crews extricated the driver and assisted the passenger at the scene. Both were transported to Kaiser South Sacramento Medical Center. The passenger was pronounced dead at the hospital around 4:20 a.m. The driver suffered major injuries and remained under medical care.

CHP officials said alcohol was suspected as a factor. The victims’ identities would be released after the next of kin were notified.

Authorities said the driver would be arrested after being discharged from the hospital.

Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.

Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
