Police Investigate Fatal Crash on Dale Evans Parkway in Apple Valley

Apple Valley, CA (August 20, 2025) – A 53-year-old Apple Valley man died in a crash on Dale Evans Parkway.

A 49-year-old Barstow man driving a gray 2002 Mazda B-Series pickup struck and killed a 53-year-old Apple Valley man riding a motorized shopping cart on Tuesday night, August 19, 2025. 

The fatal crash occurred around 8:40 p.m. near the intersection of Dale Evans Parkway and Zuni Road in the Town of Apple Valley.

Deputies from the Apple Valley Sheriff’s Station and firefighters from the Apple Valley Fire Department responded to the scene.

Authorities determined that the pickup was traveling northbound when it hit the rider from behind in the same lane of travel.

First responders transported the severely injured man to St. Mary’s Hospital, where he later succumbed to his injuries. 

Officials have not released the victim’s identity pending next-of-kin notification.

The driver remained at the scene and fully cooperated with the ongoing investigation. At this time, the San Bernardino County Sheriff’s Department has not confirmed whether drugs or alcohol played a role in the collision. 

The Major Accident Investigative Team (M.A.I.T.) continues to examine the case.

Authorities closed Dale Evans Parkway and Zuni Road for approximately four hours while they processed the crash scene.
