72-Year-Old Man Dead in Oakland Pedestrian Accident on Claremont Avenue near College Avenue

OAKLAND, CA (February 4, 2026) – Sunday night, Billy Grant died in a horrific pedestrian crash on Claremont Avenue near College Avenue.

The incident occurred at around 6:29 p.m. in the 6000 block of Claremont Avenue near College Avenue.

The coroner’s bureau identified the victim as 72-year-old Billy Grant, an Oakland resident.

Police said Grant was walking in the southbound lane for unknown reasons when a southbound vehicle struck him. He was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

The driver, a 21-year-old woman from Berkeley, remained at the scene and is cooperating with investigators. Police said drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors.
