1 Dead in Mercer County Auto Accident on Route P near Decal Street

MERCER COUNTY, MO (March 12, 2026) – Tuesday, a person died and another sustained injuries in a startling 2-vehicle crash on Route P near Decal Street.

The incident happened just before noon on Route P near Decal Street, eight miles west of Mercer.

The Missouri State Highway Patrol said an 84-year-old man from Chariton, Iowa, was stopped at a stop sign on Decal Street facing eastbound while a pickup truck driven by a 48-year-old man from Cainsville was traveling south on Route P.

Authorities said the car failed to yield, and the pickup struck the driver’s side. The impact pushed the car off the roadway, though it remained upright.

The car’s driver was pronounced dead at the scene. An 83-year-old passenger from Chariton suffered serious injuries and was taken to Wayne County Hospital in Corydon, Iowa. The pickup driver was not injured.

Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
