Police Investigate  Semi-Truck Crash on SR 260 in Payson

Payson, AZ (January 30, 2025) – One person sustained injuries in a semi-truck crash on SR 260.

Snow is falling in the Payson area as authorities work to manage road safety following major highway closures. 

Early Wednesday morning, a semi-truck overturned on SR 260 east of Payson, prompting a 12-hour shutdown. 

According to the Arizona Department of Public Safety (DPS), two separate crashes forced full closures of SR 260 and SR 87.

Around 2:30 a.m., the semi-truck rolled over near milepost 277 on SR 260, injuring at least one person. 

While crews cleared the site, both eastbound and westbound sections of the highway remained closed until just before 2 p.m. 

DPS stated the truck’s trailer was too heavy and had to be offloaded before removal.

Meanwhile, another crash south of Payson caused both directions of SR 87 to close at milepost 221. Crews reopened the road by 6:30 a.m.

Although it remains unclear whether weather played a role in the accidents, authorities noted significant snowfall near Payson. 

DPS reported multiple vehicle slide-offs along SR 87 near Bush Highway due to heavy snow accumulation. As a result, northbound lanes at Bush Highway remain closed.

ADOT and DPS are urging drivers in the area to reduce speed and heed closure notices for their safety.
