WARD COUNTY, TX (April 29, 2026) – Monday night, a major pileup crash on Interstate 20 at Mile Marker 74 left 16 people with injuries.

The incident involving 14 vehicles happened at about 5:45 p.m. on Interstate 20 at Mile Marker 74.

Investigators said a truck tractor pulling a dump trailer lost part of its load of caliche dirt onto the westbound lanes of I-20. According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, other vehicles then drove through the material, creating a heavy dust cloud that reduced visibility and triggered a chain-reaction crash.

A total of 16 people were injured. One driver was taken to Medical Center Hospital with serious injuries, while others were transported to area hospitals with minor injuries.

Officials said the westbound lanes of IH-20 remain closed, with traffic being diverted. The crash is still under investigation, and no additional details have been released.
