Several Injured After Fatal Crash at Avenue 17 in Madera County

MADERA COUNTY, CA (July 2, 2026) — An 18-year-old Madera woman died Tuesday night after a two-vehicle crash at Avenue 17 and Road 28 1/2 in Madera County.

According to the California Highway Patrol, the crash happened at about 9:46 p.m.

CHP said the woman was driving a white 2018 Chevrolet Malibu eastbound on Avenue 17. At the same time, a 25-year-old Madera woman was driving a black 2019 Jeep Wrangler southbound on Road 28 1/2.

Authorities said traffic on Road 28 1/2 had the right of way, while stop signs controlled traffic on Avenue 17.

According to CHP, the Chevrolet failed to stop at the stop sign and entered the intersection in the path of the Jeep. The front of the Chevrolet then struck the right side of the Jeep.

After the collision, both vehicles traveled toward a nearby home. CHP said the Jeep overturned, and both vehicles eventually came to rest.

Before stopping, the vehicles struck a parked vehicle and a support beam at the home, damaging both.

CHP pronounced the 18-year-old Chevrolet driver dead at the scene.

A 19-year-old male passenger in the Chevrolet suffered major injuries and was transported to a local hospital. A 21-year-old woman riding in the Chevrolet also went to a hospital with minor injuries.

The Jeep driver and one passenger also suffered minor injuries, according to CHP.

Authorities continue to investigate the crash.
