Driver Airlifted Following Head-On Crash Near Othello; Another Motorist Arrested

Othello, WA (May 21, 2025) — A serious head-on collision on West Bench Road near Othello on Wednesday afternoon left one driver injured and flown to a hospital for treatment.

According to the Adams County Sheriff’s Office, deputies responded around 12:10 p.m. on May 20 to the crash near West Bench Road and South Thacker Road. Emergency crews from Adams County Fire District 5 and Othello EMS also arrived at the scene.

Authorities said one driver escaped without injuries, while the other became trapped inside their vehicle. Firefighters used the Jaws of Life to free the injured driver before deputies secured a landing area for Life Flight. Medical personnel then airlifted the victim for additional treatment.

During the emergency response, deputies closed the roadway and directed traffic around the crash site. Investigators said a driver ignored the closure and drove around a marked patrol vehicle blocking the road.

Deputies stopped the vehicle and identified the driver as 31-year-old Javier Julio-Garcia of Othello. A records check reportedly showed his license was suspended, and deputies arrested him on suspicion of driving with a suspended license.
