2 Drivers Hospitalized After Head-On Collision on Highway 18 [Lucerne Valley, CA]

Lucerne Valley, CA (August 27, 2026) — A serious head-on collision on Highway 18 between a Robertson’s double-tanker truck and a BMW SUV shut down both directions near Meridian Road in Lucerne Valley.

The crash happened around 10:42 a.m. The impact overturned the semi’s cab and left one of its tanker trailers on its side, scattering debris across the highway.

Firefighters worked to free the truck driver from the overturned cab. Crews later escorted the driver to a fire engine while the driver waited for an air ambulance. The BMW driver was also airlifted to a hospital, and authorities requested a second medical helicopter for the truck driver.

Crews brought in additional equipment to clean up spilled cement powder and remove the damaged vehicles. Officials closed both lanes and warned motorists to expect major delays while crews cleared the scene.
