Injuries Reported in Albuquerque Auto Accident on Interstate 25 near Coal

ALBUQUERQUE, NM (April 30, 2026) – Monday night, a single-car crash on Interstate 25 near Coal sent two people to the hospital.

The incident happened just before 7:00 p.m. on Interstate 25 northbound at Coal.

Authorities said a vehicle struck the jersey barrier near the Coal exit, and the crash is believed to involve a single car. While en route, responders were told there could be occupants trapped inside.

At least two people were taken to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

The Albuquerque Police Department, along with Police Service Aides and the New Mexico State Police, closed the Coal exit on northbound Interstate 25, including the right lane and shoulder. Drivers were advised to expect delays, with closures subject to change.

APD’s Motor Unit was requested to assist due to the severity of the injuries, though officials noted the New Mexico State Police may take over the investigation since the crash occurred on an interstate.
