Injuries Reported in Columbia Vehicle Crash on Interstate 44

COLUMBIA, MO (August 17, 2025) – Friday afternoon, an alarming auto accident on Interstate 44 injured 2 people.

The incident involving a 2005 Toyota Tundra happened on Interstate 44 in Phelps County.

According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, an eastbound truck went off the left side of the road before the driver, an 18-year-old woman from Hillsboro, overcorrected. The truck rolled and ejected a passenger, a 49-year-old man from De Soto.

The man was airlifted to University Hospital with serious injuries, while the driver was taken by ambulance to Phelps Health with moderate injuries. Troopers said neither occupant was wearing a seatbelt.

MSHP does not release the names of individuals involved in crashes.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.

Due to the limited information available, the authorities continued to investigate the crash.
