CORPUS CHRISTI, TX (April 14, 2026) – Monday, a crippling plane crash on Highway 44 near Corpus Christi International Airport injured 2.

The incident occurred on the Highway 44 access road adjacent to Corpus Christi International Airport.

According to reports, both occupants were taken to Spohn Shoreline Hospital in critical condition with severe burns.

Perez said the aircraft caught fire following the crash, but crews were able to put out the flames. No first responders were injured.

Railroad tracks in the area were temporarily closed while crews worked. Downed power lines were also reported, and American Electric Power crews were securing them before officials could safely assess the scene and reopen the tracks. The company said 27 customers were without power.

The Texas Commission on Environmental Quality and the National Transportation Safety Board have been notified and are expected to investigate the crash, Perez said.

The Corpus Christi Police Department issued a traffic advisory for westbound Highway 44 near Clarkwood, urging drivers to avoid the area.
