Drivers Hospitalized After Crash on State Route 171 in Carl Junction

Carl Junction, MO (January 21, 2026) – Two drivers sustained injuries in a suspected DWI crash on State Route 171.

Emergency responders rushed to the scene of a crash late Wednesday night on Missouri Highway 171 in Carl Junction following reports made just before 10:45 p.m.

According to authorities, the collision occurred on MO-171 just north of East Pennell Street. Carl Junction Police and Fire Department units responded alongside METS Ambulance. 

The Missouri State Highway Patrol and Jasper County Sheriff’s deputies assisted with traffic control as crews worked at the scene.

Investigators determined the crash involved a suspected DWI. Police reported that a minivan traveling northbound on MO-171 struck a southbound Jeep SUV. 

The impact caused significant damage to both vehicles and prompted an immediate investigation.

Both drivers sustained injuries and were transported to nearby hospitals for treatment. Officials confirmed that the injuries were non-life-threatening. 

After investigators completed their work, H&H Wrecker removed the damaged vehicles from the roadway.

MO-171 remained closed for approximately 75 minutes before reopening to all traffic.
