2 Injured in Solo Vehicle Crash on Highway 101 [Gaviota, CA]

Pickup Truck Crash on Highway 101 Near Gaviota State Park 

GAVIOTA, CA (November 20, 2025) — Two men sustained injuries in a serious single-vehicle rollover crash on Highway 101, just south of Gaviota State Park, on Thursday afternoon, according to the Santa Barbara County Fire Department.

The accident occurred shortly after 12:00 p.m., when a Dodge pickup truck traveling southbound veered off the highway and overturned. 

The vehicle came to a stop approximately 150 feet off the roadway, fire officials confirmed.

Captain Scott Safechuck stated that both occupants were trapped inside the overturned pickup. 

Emergency responders, including firefighters, used the Jaws of Life hydraulic rescue tool to extricate them — a process that took around 15 minutes.

One of the men sustained moderate injuries, while the other suffered minor injuries. 

Both were transported by American Medical Response (AMR) ambulance to Santa Barbara Cottage Hospital for further treatment. 

Their identities and current medical conditions have not been released.

A dog also traveling in the pickup truck was uninjured.

Following the crash, one southbound lane of Highway 101 was temporarily closed to allow emergency personnel to safely manage the scene. 

The California Highway Patrol (CHP) is investigating the cause of the crash.
