Two People Hospitalized After Crash on Papago Road in Maricopa

Maricopa, AZ (August 5, 2025) – Two people sustained minor injuries in a two-vehicle crash on Papago Road.

Around 12:45 p.m. today, a serious two-vehicle crash near Papago Road sent two people to the hospital and temporarily closed the southbound lanes of State Route 347.

A gold Volkswagen Passat sedan collided with a dark gray Honda Odyssey minivan near the intersection, leaving both vehicles with major front-end damage. 

The crash tore the Volkswagen’s hood completely off.

A witness selling enchiladas at the corner reported that the Volkswagen turned onto SR 347 from Papago Road into moving traffic. 

Authorities stated that failure to yield appears to have caused the collision.

The Passat’s younger solo driver and the Odyssey’s older driver and passenger were involved. 

Ambulances transported two people from the scene, and a third medical unit also responded.

Ak-Chin Police Department, state troopers, and the Arizona Department of Transportation’s emergency response team worked together at the scene. 

Officers used a patrol vehicle to push the damaged Volkswagen out of the roadway.

By 1:10 p.m., both ambulances had left the scene, but traffic continued to move around the crash site under direction from officers. 

No tow truck had arrived by that time.

“It’s a two-vehicle, minor injury collision,” DPS spokesperson Bart Graves said. “Two were transported just as a precaution.”
