Officer Injured After Stolen-Vehicle Crash on East 12th Street in Oakland
OAKLAND, CA (June 8, 2026)— Two men died, and a police officer was injured after a crash on East 12th Street on Monday morning.
According to Oakland police, the crash happened around 11:10 a.m. on East 12th Street near 29th Avenue.
Police said preliminary information showed that the Tahoe was speeding eastbound on East 12th Street with three men inside when it struck the marked Oakland police SUV.
Authorities said an Oakland Housing Authority officer had earlier seen the Tahoe driving erratically and tried to stop it. The vehicle sped away, but police said the officer did not pursue it.
The Tahoe continued eastbound and collided with the marked patrol SUV. Police said the injured officer was not involved in the original call. A colleague transported the officer to a hospital. Authorities did not immediately release the officer’s condition.
After the collision, the Tahoe continued for about a quarter-mile before going out of control and overturning. Two male passengers were ejected from the vehicle and died at the scene.
Police said the suspected driver survived, got out of the wrecked vehicle, and tried to run from the scene. An Oakland Housing Authority officer arrested him. Authorities have not released his name or said whether he required hospitalization.
Police later determined that the Tahoe had been stolen.
Traffic investigators with the Oakland Police Department continue to investigate the crash.
Officers closed East 12th Street in both directions from 25th Avenue to 30th Avenue during the investigation.
Sweet Lawyers extend our heartfelt condolences to the loved ones of the deceased. May the bereaved find solace and strength in this extremely trying time.
