Castillo Jose Antonio and Richard Gerard Ritter Killed in Brutal 3-Vehicle Crash on FM 3398 [Ward County, TX]

2 Dead in Ward County Multi-Vehicle Accident on FM 3398 near Mile Marker 353

WARD COUNTY, TX (July 1, 2026) – Saturday morning, a brutal 3-vehicle crash on FM 3398 killed Castillo Jose Antonio and Richard Gerard Ritter.

The incident involving three vehicles happened at around 7:00 a.m. on FM 3398 near mile marker 353.

According to the Texas Department of Public Safety, an eastbound Ford F-150 crossed the center line into the westbound lanes, triggering a fatal multi-vehicle crash.

Investigators said a westbound Nissan Rogue swerved to avoid a head-on collision, left the roadway, and struck a utility pole. The Ford then continued into the westbound lane and collided with a Dodge Ram 1500 traveling behind the Nissan.

The Ford driver sustained serious injuries and was transported to Medical Center Hospital. A passenger in the Ford, identified as 21-year-old Castillo Jose Antonio of Pecos, was not wearing a seat belt and was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Nissan driver suffered minor injuries and was taken to Reeves County Hospital.

The Dodge driver, identified as 57-year-old Richard Gerard Ritter of Florida, was wearing a seat belt but died at the scene.

Authorities said the Ford came to rest, partially blocking the roadway, while the Dodge rolled onto its right side and came to rest off the roadway. The crash remains under investigation.
