2 Dead in Bakersfield Auto Accident on Highway 99 near South Union Avenue

BAKERSFIELD, CA (August 13, 2025) – Friday night, a brutal solo-vehicle crash on Highway 99 near South Union Avenue killed 2 people.

The incident happened just after 11:00 p.m. on Highway 99 near South Union Avenue.

A 20-year-old man was speeding south on Highway 99 in a Chevrolet when the car veered onto the west shoulder and struck a metal guardrail. It then crashed into the south Union Avenue overcrossing before stopping on the west shoulder, blocking the third lane.

An unrestrained passenger was ejected from the vehicle. Both the driver and that passenger were pronounced dead at the scene, while two other passengers sustained serious injuries and were transported to a hospital.

At this time, the circumstances that led to the crash remained unclear. Once additional details become available, the public will be notified.
