2 Dead in San Leandro Auto Accident on 238 Freeway and E 14th Street

SAN LEANDRO, CA (October 12, 2025) – Saturday morning, a devastating pursuit crash on 238 Freeway and E 14th Street killed 2 suspects.

The incident began when officers tried to stop a speeding Mercedes sedan at about 3:40 a.m. on the westbound side of 580 Freeway, east of Eden Canyon Road.

CHP said a Mercedes failed to stop for officers, sparking a pursuit that ended in San Leandro.

The suspect vehicle attempted to exit westbound I-238 onto East 14th Street but crashed into a sound wall. A pursuing CHP vehicle also struck the same wall while trying to make the exit.

Authorities said the two vehicles did not collide with each other.

The Alameda County Fire Department responded and found the driver and one passenger in the Mercedes dead at the scene. A second passenger was taken to a hospital with serious injuries. Their identities have not been released.

Two CHP officers in the patrol vehicle were also hospitalized with major but non-life-threatening injuries.

The crash remains under investigation.
