Deadly 2-Vehicle Collision on Taft Highway Claims a Life [Bakersfield, CA]

Bakersfield, CA (May 14, 2025) – A deadly 2-Vehicle Collision on Taft Highway left at least a person dead Tuesday afternoon.

According to authorities, the fatal crash happened around 4:47 p.m. near Taft Highway (Highway 119) at Coles Levee Road, just west of the I-5.

Reports say that the fatal crash involved a semi-truck and an SUV.

The impact caused the SUV to catch fire, igniting nearby grass. Good Samaritans reportedly attempted to extinguish the flames before emergency responders arrived.

Authorities closed multiple lanes of Highway 119, including westbound Highway 43 at the roundabout and eastbound Taft Highway at Tupman Road.

CHP expects the area to reopen approximately two hours after the initial incident.

The cause of the crash remains under investigation.
