2-Vehicle Crash on Highway 6 Under Investigation [Grand Junction, CO]

Suspected DUI Driver Arrested After Wrong-Way Crash and Officer Assault in Grand Junction

Grand Junction, CO (July 11, 2026) — Early Friday morning, a suspected impaired driver faces multiple charges after allegedly causing a wrong-way crash on Highway 6 and injuring a police officer.

According to the Grand Junction Police Department, officers responded to a two-vehicle collision in the 2400 block of Highway 6 and 50. They found a Jeep in the highway median, and the other vehicle stopped in the westbound lanes.

Investigators determined that the Jeep’s driver, identified as 55-year-old George Miller, had been traveling the wrong way on the westbound 24 Road off-ramp before entering oncoming traffic and colliding with another vehicle.

Police believe Miller was under the influence at the time of the crash. Authorities said he later assaulted an officer before officers took him into custody.

Miller suffered minor injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation. The two occupants of the other vehicle were not injured, while the officer sustained minor injuries and received treatment at the scene.

After receiving medical clearance, Miller was booked into the Mesa County Detention Facility on multiple charges, including second-degree assault on a peace officer, DUI, resisting arrest, obstructing a peace officer, reckless driving, driving under restraint, and failure to provide proof of insurance.

The investigation remains ongoing.

Traffic collisions can happen anytime, but their impact lasts a lifetime. Stay alert, avoid distractions, and never drive under the influence. Always wear your seatbelt, obey speed limits, and be mindful of pedestrians and cyclists. Keep a safe distance between vehicles and adjust your speed for road conditions.
