Horrific 2-Vehicle Crash on Interstate 49 Injures 3 People [Carthage, MO]

Carthage, MO (May 25, 2025) – A frightening 2-vehicle crash on Interstate 49 left 3 people hurt and hospitalized.

According to authorities, the shocking crash happened around 1:30 p.m. on southbound I-49 near mile marker 55.

Reports say that the crash sent three people to the hospital Wednesday afternoon after a Chevy Tracker collided with a semi-truck.

Authorities say that the Chevy Tracker veered off the road, struck a guardrail, then reentered the highway and crashed into a 2000 Peterbilt semi. The SUV sustained extensive damage and blocked traffic in the area.

Emergency crews from Carthage Fire, Jasper County Deputies, Mercy Ambulance, MoDOT, and Missouri State Highway Patrol responded.

The crash injured all three occupants of the Chevy Tracker— a 66-year-old woman, a 21-year-old woman, and a 10-year-old girl, all from Greenfield, Missouri. Mercy Ambulance transported them to Mercy Joplin with moderate injuries.

The 57-year-old semi-truck driver from Neosho, Missouri, was not injured.

Crews cleared the wreckage and debris after about 70 minutes of traffic disruption.
