Injuries Reported in Columbia Auto Accident on Northwest Interstate 70 Drive and Garden Drive

COLUMBIA, MO (September 22, 2026) – Monday morning, a disastrous 2-vehicle crash on Northwest Interstate 70 Drive.

The incident happened at about 7:50 a.m. on Northwest Interstate 70 Drive.

Four Columbia Fire Department trucks, an MU Health Care ambulance, two tow trucks and two Columbia Police Department patrol cars responded to the scene.

Fire Capt. Wayne Cummins said three patients were involved in the crash and were transported by ambulance. Reports confirmed that one person was trapped inside a vehicle when crews arrived, but firefighters quickly freed the patient and transferred them to an ambulance. The extent of the injuries was not immediately known.

The crash was first reported at 7:08 a.m., according to a Boone County Joint Communications alert. I-70 Drive Northwest was closed because of the crash, and drivers were advised to use an alternate route.

A damaged vehicle was later towed from the scene. Firefighters were still clearing equipment shortly after 7:30 a.m.
