73-Year-Old Man Killed in Whatcom County Crash in Van Zandt
Whatcom County, WA (May 4, 2026) — A 73-year-old man from Deming lost his life in a two-vehicle crash on State Route 9 Saturday afternoon in Whatcom County.
The collision happened around 12:10 p.m. along Valley Highway (State Route 9) in Van Zandt. The man was driving a utility vehicle and attempting a left turn when it collided with an oncoming SUV traveling in the opposite direction.
Emergency responders arrived and pronounced the victim dead at the scene.
Authorities transported the 16-year-old driver of the SUV to a nearby hospital as a precaution. Investigators reported that impairment did not appear to play a role in the crash.

The investigation into the crash remains ongoing.
