1 Person Dead in Cole County Traffic Accident on US Highway 54 and Monticello Road
COLE COUNTY, MO (February 19, 2026) – Wednesday morning, a devastating 2-vehicle crash on US Highway 54 and Monticello Road killed one person.
The incident happened at around 11:32 a.m. on US Highway 54 and Monticello Road.
According to the Missouri State Highway Patrol, a 2011 Volkswagen Jetta that was attempting to cross US Highway 54, failed to yield the right of way and collided with a 2014 Ford Edge.
Moreover, responders rushed the 21-year-old male driver of the Volkswagen to Capital Region Medical Center, where he was later pronounced dead. Then, paramedics airlifted the 79-year-old female driver of the Ford to a hospital with serious injuries.
At this time, the events leading to the crash remained unclear. When additional information becomes available, the public will be notified.
Due to limited information, the MSHP continued investigating the crash.
