Five Hospitalized After Chain-Reaction Crash Near East Wenatchee
Wenatchee, WA (March 29, 2026) — On Friday afternoon, 5 people, including several children, suffered injuries following a three-vehicle crash on State Route 28 just north of East Wenatchee.
The collision happened around 3:25 p.m. on March 27 along State Route 28 near milepost 2. Authorities reported that a 72-year-old East Wenatchee woman driving a GMC Acadia attempted to turn left onto the highway from 24th Street Northeast. During the turn, her vehicle struck an oncoming Audi Q5, setting off a chain-reaction crash.
The impact caused the Audi, driven by a 17-year-old girl, to roll before it collided with a third vehicle, a Chevrolet Trailblazer operated by a 19-year-old woman. The Audi eventually landed upright and blocked the southbound lanes, while the Trailblazer came to rest against a guardrail, obstructing the northbound side.
Emergency responders transported five injured individuals to a local hospital. The victims included the 72-year-old driver and four passengers from the Audi, among them children ages 12 and 10. One child was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
Authorities confirmed that the teenage driver of the Audi, the driver of the Trailblazer, and a passenger in the third vehicle escaped without injury.
Investigators identified failure to yield the right of way as the primary cause of the crash, with a possible medical issue also considered. Officials ruled out drugs and alcohol as contributing factors. The incident temporarily shut down both directions of SR-28 while crews cleared the scene.
Keep Our Highways Safe
Traffic collisions can happen anytime, but their impact lasts a lifetime. Stay alert, avoid distractions, and never drive under the influence. Always wear your seatbelt, obey speed limits, and be mindful of pedestrians and cyclists. Keep a safe distance between vehicles and adjust your speed for road conditions.
Serious crashes can happen in seconds, especially at intersections and during turning maneuvers. Always yield properly, stay alert, and ensure every passenger is wearing a seatbelt—these small actions can save lives.
