Three Dead After High-Speed Crash Into Tree in Spanaway

Spanaway, WA (June 25, 2025) — Three people lost their lives following a high-speed crash on Military Road East in Spanaway on June 19.

According to the Pierce County Sheriff’s Office, the collision happened around 8:30 p.m. in the 400 block of Military Road East.

Investigators said a 48-year-old driver was traveling at a high rate of speed when he attempted to avoid a man mowing his lawn near the roadway. The driver lost control while trying to correct his path, left the road, and crashed into a tree.

The force of the impact split the vehicle in half. The driver and a 37-year-old woman riding in the rear seat died at the scene.

A 53-year-old woman seated in the front passenger seat suffered critical injuries and was transported to a local hospital. Authorities later confirmed that she also died from her injuries.

Investigators found numerous empty alcohol containers inside the wreckage and believe alcohol may have contributed to the crash. The incident remains under investigation.
