Three Seriously Hurt in Multi-Vehicle Crash on SR-18 Near Covington
Covington, WA (May 23, 2025) — A four-vehicle collision on Highway 18 caused major traffic disruptions and left three people seriously injured Thursday afternoon.
According to the Washington State Department of Transportation, the head-on collision happened shortly before 3 p.m. near the SR-169 interchange and blocked all eastbound lanes of SR-18.
The crash also affected westbound traffic, with vehicles only able to pass through on the shoulder for several hours. Traffic backups stretched for miles along eastbound SR-18 and northbound SR-169.
Emergency responders arrived at the scene to assist victims and investigate the collision. Witnesses reported seeing a medical helicopter land on the highway to support rescue efforts.
Puget Sound Fire confirmed that three people were transported to local hospitals with serious injuries.
Focus on the Road
Millions of people take to the roads for work, school, errands, or leisure. While many of these trips are uneventful, accidents can happen in the blink of an eye. Traffic accidents can change lives in an instant, causing physical injuries, emotional trauma, and financial hardship.
Wearing your seatbelt is the simplest and most effective way to protect yourself in an accident. It can reduce the risk of serious injury or death by up to 50%.
Similarly, texting, talking on the phone, eating, or doing anything else that takes your eyes off the road for even a second can have disastrous consequences. Keep your hands on the wheel and your eyes on the road.
Always drive cautiously and be aware of road conditions to prevent accidents. Quick and safe responses can save lives in emergencies.
Head-on and multi-vehicle crashes often lead to severe injuries and major roadway delays. Drivers should remain attentive, avoid distractions, and maintain safe speeds, especially on busy highways and interchange areas where traffic conditions can change quickly.
