4 Dead in Chino Hills Wrong-Way Accident on 71 Freeway near Chino Hills Parkway

CHINO HILLS, CA (March 20, 2023) – Sunday morning, four people died in a multi-vehicle crash on 71 Freeway near Chino Hills Parkway.

The incident occurred at about 2:30 a.m. on the southbound lanes of 71 Freeway near Chino Hills Parkway.

According to the CHP, upon their officers’ arrival, they located at least one car that had caught fire.

When a CHP sergeant arrived, he attempted to rescue the occupants from the burning car.

“He attempted to use his fire extinguisher (from) his patrol car,” Highway Patrol Sgt. Kenneth Phillips said. “Once that was exhausted, he used a bystander’s fire extinguisher and attempted to defeat the flames, however, was unsuccessful.”
