4 Dead in Newberry Springs Auto Accident on Interstate 40 and Hector Road

NEWBERRY SPRINGS, CA (May 5, 2025) – Sunday morning, 4 people died in a devastating rollover crash on Interstate 49 and Hector Road.

The incident occurred at about 7:45 a.m. in the westbound lanes of Interstate 40, three miles after Hector Road.

According to the California Highway Patrol, officers responded to a single-vehicle rollover crash that resulted in four fatalities.

Upon arrival, rescue crews found a brown Chevrolet Silverado pickup truck on the right-side shoulder of the freeway. The vehicle had reportedly rolled over multiple times and sustained major damage.

San Bernardino County Fire confirmed that three individuals were pronounced dead at the scene, while a fourth person was critically injured. A medical helicopter was initially requested, but Mercy Air #66 was canceled after the fourth person was also pronounced dead at the scene.

The identities of those involved will be released once next of kin have been notified.

Motorists on westbound I-40 were advised to avoid the area as the investigation continued through the late morning and afternoon.
