6 People Hurt in Multi-Car Collision on Interstate 8 [San Diego, CA]

San Diego, CA (August 18, 2026) — At least six people suffered injuries Saturday morning in a multi-vehicle collision on Interstate 8 WB near Mission Bay.

The crash happened around 9:56 a.m. near Sports Arena Boulevard and involved at least five vehicles. Several vehicles sustained significant damage, with two blocking the right lane while others stopped along the freeway shoulder.

Emergency crews transported two people by ambulance to Scripps Mercy Hospital with minor injuries. Two additional victims went to UC San Diego Health’s Hillcrest campus for treatment.

The California Highway Patrol requested multiple tow trucks as crews cleared the wreckage. Authorities reopened the roadway around 11 a.m.

Officials had not immediately determined what caused the collision.
