Injuries Reported in Bakersfield Auto Accident on Mano Street and China Grade Loop

BAKERSFIELD, CA (May 22, 2025) – Tuesday night, a disastrous vehicle crash on Mano Street and China Grade Loop injured 8 people.

Reports said that the incident happened just after 7:00 p.m. on Mano Street and China Grade Loop.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office and CHP reported that the driver of a 2011 Honda Accord entered the Lerdo Jail property without authorization and fled the scene. The vehicle was later observed speeding east on China Grade Loop toward Manor Street.

At the intersection of China Grade Loop and Manor Street, the Honda ran a red light and collided with a 2008 Chevrolet Suburban, which was traveling through the intersection under a green signal. The Chevrolet struck the right side of the Honda, causing heavy damage to both vehicles.

Inside the SUV were two adults and five children, ages 1 to 10 years old. CHP confirmed that the Honda driver suffered severe injuries and was transported to a hospital. The driver and all six passengers in the Chevrolet suffered moderate to major injuries and were taken to various hospitals.

The Kern County Sheriff’s Office is handling the investigation related to the incident at Lerdo Jail, while CHP is investigating the collision.
