Police Investigate Fatal Pedestrian Crash on Ocean and Lee Avenue

San Francisco, CA (August 1, 2025) – An 83-year-old pedestrian died in a crash on Ocean and Lee Avenue.

San Francisco’s leading safe-streets advocate is calling out the city after an 83-year-old pedestrian, struck by a vehicle on August 2 near Ocean and Lee avenues, died Wednesday — marking the city’s 11th traffic fatality this year.

Walk SF said police confirmed the crash happened at an intersection long plagued by collisions. 

The group noted Ocean and Lee sits on the city’s 2022 “high-injury network” — just 12% of streets where 68% of crashes occur. Since 2015, five fatal crashes have happened along Ocean Avenue, three involving pedestrians, with 16 other injury crashes at that intersection alone.

Last year, drivers killed 24 pedestrians in the city. In response, officials launched a speed camera program this year, issuing citations for the first time Tuesday.

District 7 Supervisor Myrna Melgar recently introduced the Street Safety Act, which Walk SF says takes a more aggressive stance on traffic safety.

“Street design and enforcement can prevent deadly crashes,” said Walk SF Communications Director Marta Lindsey. “We already have solutions that work — but we need them deployed faster and on a larger scale to meet the urgency of this crisis.”
