Fremont, CA (December 18, 2025) — 39-year-old Abraham Fadel EL-Zein lost his life Friday afternoon after a driver fleeing police veered onto a sidewalk and struck him in Fremont, authorities said.

According to authorities, the incident began shortly after 4 p.m. on December 13 when Fremont police officers observed a vehicle speeding and driving recklessly on Osgood Road near Auto Mall Parkway. When officers attempted a traffic stop, the driver sped away. Police discontinued the pursuit for public safety reasons and lost sight of the vehicle.

Moments later, the same car ran a red light at the intersection of Osgood Road and South Grimmer Boulevard, collided with another vehicle, and continued out of control. The car then jumped the curb, entered a sidewalk, and struck a pedestrian.

Emergency responders transported the EL-Zein to a local hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

Police arrested the driver, identified as 28-year-old Antwone Spruill of Fremont, following the crash. Investigators are awaiting toxicology results to determine whether drugs or alcohol contributed to the incident.
