Frightening Accident on Carnation-Duvall Road Under Investigation [King County, WA]

King County, WA (December 9, 2025) — A tragic accident on Carnation-Duvall Road on Saturday left a woman dead and a man critically injured after a tree suddenly fell onto their Subaru as they traveled along Carnation-Duvall Road near Fay Road Northeast.

The Washington State Patrol said the southbound Subaru was struck when the tree collapsed and shattered on impact, sending debris across the roadway. The SUV continued forward until it hit a guardrail and came to a stop.

Eastside Fire & Rescue responded around 2:30 p.m. Crews used rescue tools to reach the occupants. A 44-year-old Duvall woman died at the scene. Troopers noted she was not wearing a seatbelt. The 49-year-old Skykomish man driving the Subaru suffered life-threatening injuries and was airlifted to Harborview Medical Center from a designated helicopter landing zone at Stillwater Elementary.

Debris from the fallen tree also caused a truck with four people inside to strike the scattered branches in the northbound lanes. All occupants, including two children, were unharmed.

Officials said recent heavy rainfall likely weakened the tree’s root system, causing it to fall despite calm weather at the time.
