Big Rig Overturns in Oakland Crash, Westbound Highway 24 Reopens

Oakland, CA (January 25, 2026) — On Thursday evening, westbound Highway 24 in Oakland reopened after a traffic accident on Highway 24 involving multiple vehicles and a big rig forced a temporary shutdown.

According to authorities, the collision occurred shortly after 3:45 p.m. east of Highway 13.

Authorities said a Subaru made an unsafe lane change into the path of a Nissan. As traffic slowed, the Subaru came to a stop and the Nissan rear-ended it. Moments later, a big rig towing a trailer loaded with cardboard struck the Nissan, causing the truck to overturn.

As the big rig rolled, cardboard spilled from the trailer and struck a Ford pickup truck. Emergency crews responded and closed all westbound lanes while they cleared the wreckage. The freeway reopened before 6:15 p.m.

The big rig driver reported pain in the right leg and left arm and was taken to a hospital for evaluation. Officials said no other injuries were reported.
